Tokyo Girls Collection 2025: The Power of Entertainment
As a strong believer in the transformative power of entertainment, it was a true honor to take on an internship opportunity for Tokyo Girls Collection, one of the highest-profile fashion events worldwide that combines hyper-current style trends with live entertainment and performances by popular musical artists. Starting several months before the event, I was able to participate in strategic planning meetings alongside some of the most senior organizers. In my role as a youth consultant, I provided my perspective as a member of Gen Z to assist the planning team with youth advertising and outreach, giving insight into social media trends and other outlets that could be used to increase youth engagement.
In late February I traveled from New York to Tokyo, where I participated in a whirlwind of several days of preparation leading up to the event itself. Some of my duties included providing performers and important guests with day-of support, transporting important documents and goods throughout the venue, and communicating with other team members to ensure each part of the event went as smoothly as possible. I was also able to spend part of this time shadowing the CEO of a talent agency that manages several popular idol groups in Japan, which allowed me to experience the entertainment industry firsthand.
This event drew a crowd full of people of all ages and occupations, from distinguished guests such as the Prime Minister of Japan himself to teenage girls eager to catch a glimpse of their favorite idols. It was a true privilege to be part of that, and as I saw smile after smile on the faces of passing audience members, I felt even more strongly that entertainment has a unique power to bring people together.
